An E. coli strain is constructed in your lab that carries a CRO-GFP transcriptional fusion on a cryptic and harmless lambda prophage that basically lacks all other lambda genes except cI an cro. In this strain, cI and cro are expressed normally and thus the CRO-GFP fusion in driven by the lambda PR promoter. This strain exhibits a GFP- phenotype, but permanently becomes constitutive for GFP (GFP+) after temporary induction of the SOS response.

Please explain in detail what the difference is between the normal reaction and when its SOS induced.
