Central warehouses vs multiple distribution centers
Introduction
Many professionals use the terms warehouses and distribution centers to describe the same concept. However, there are lots of different features between warehouses and distribution centers in logistics field. The warehouse is the act of storing goods that will be sold or distributed later and its capacity and technology differs based on the business size and nature. While distribution centers are facilities used to receive, store, and distribute products and services based on orders.
Objectives
1. To evaluate the option of using central or multiple warehouses based on the business models and target market.
2. To evaluate the option of making the warehouse as a distribution center or to have two different locations for each task.
Outline to achieve these objectives
Collecting qualitative data and evaluate them based on experts' opinions and other previous researches to reach a desired conclusion. Also, I will focus on comparing between Walmart and Amazon business model to highlight the difference between each company's warehouse and distribution center.
Data
Qualitative data from Walmart and amazon case studies, researches and official websites.
