Using your assigned reading, powerpoint, and notes, and audio lecture-bite (not currently available), summarize attitudes towards death in the U.S. and summarize Kubler-Ross' Dying Process (5 steps=5 chapters in her classic book On Death and Dying.

Choose a culture different from your own (You may use Global Aging E-Text Chapter as a source). Research and explain their views on dying, funerals, and any belief in the afterlife.

The U.S. has been called a "death denying" culture. Read the brief article on Thanatophobia and write briefly on your thoughts on the article that applies Psychologist Erik Erikson's theory to this fear, and to what degree you think you or friends/family share this particular fear.

From your text and weblinks, identify the difference between the concepts bereavement, grief, and mourning, then respond to the following case: A friend has told you that her uncle just passed away and that she is very worried about her aunt (his widow). She and her family want to help her aunt but they don't know what to expect (i.e., what is typical grieving) and what to do to best help her. Based on the findings from bereavement studies, what advice can you give your friend to help her aunt? Would you tell your friend anything different if it were her aunt who passed away and her uncle who was the widower?

After reading about Sandra Bem's Assisted Suicide and the Maryland Bill 701, what are your views on assisted suicide and Marylanders support of this act.
