ERP Software and Service Industry

Originally, the SAP ERP software was developed for and implemented by mostly manufacturing companies in the beginning. Now, many non-manufacturing companies (trading companies, service industries, financial institutions, some hospitals, etc) also have implemented

ERP software.

Discuss whether the ERP software is mostly suitable for manufacturing companies or whether it can be used in service industries also. Discuss how ERP software can be adapted to service industries. The major difference between manufacturing and service industries will be in the area of operations (production, raw material procurement, shipping, etc).

Please take an example of a service industry and discuss how the ERP software can be adapted to that industry. Will it be as effective in the service sector as in the manufacturing sector?
