Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) encodes our master body plan with 48 strands called chromosomes. These are housed inside of each tiny cell's nucleus and mitochondria. Successful pairing and replication are required for normal development and to maintain health. With that in mind, please answer the following questions. Table 6.5 in your Banasik (p. 114) text lists causes and relative incidence of congenital malformation. Discuss one malformation that you found most interesting. Include whether your chosen malformation is genetic or hereditary. And, based on that distinction, offer suggestions for primary and secondary prevention.

The textbook notes that sometimes termination of a pregnancy "may be the treatment of choice" (Banasik, 2022, p. 117) for severe congenital deformities. As we discussed in this week's Biblical Perspective, CCU does not support elective abortion. Spontaneous abortion often occurs, though, when the fetus has developmental issues.
