You are the Manager of a restaurant and have just hired a new cook Tina, who's fresh out of cooking school. Guests are praising her dishes, particularly her new signature dish, but both guests and servers are complaining about food not being ready on time. At the first glance Tina seems to be slow and inexperienced, but her meals taste great, which is why you want to make sure her inexperience is really what's causing the problem. After some investigation, you identify the real problem: Tina is actually great at her job, however the new signature dish, which everyone loves, needs to be prepared at the last minute and takes quite some time to cook, garnish and prepare to be served.

a. Explain the difference between decision making and problem solving.

b. As a manager, what steps did you take to identify the real problem?

c. After defining the real problem, what other steps do you need to take to solve the problem? Go through the steps providing specific actions that need to be taken to solve the problem.

d. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of involving your team members in the problem-solving process.
