IS5101 Data WareHouse and Architecture
Goal
The student should show knowledge of common words and phrases in SAP, as well as the use of the system. In addition, the student will show a basic understanding of the structure and use of a data warehouse, as well as more in-depth how this can provide value for a business. The student will also have to show a holistic picture of data warehouses and insight into how to report on a cube.
Task 1
Now that NODAS is awaiting implementation, they want an assessment of which areas they need to rectify before they can get to work. Based on all the information you have about NODAS, make a structured summary of the challenges that exist and highlight the literature you have read so far in the subject to argue for each point why it should be solved before work starts.External literature is encouraged to be used.
Expected length: approx.6,00 words
Task 2
NODAS is very much looking forward to embarking on the development of the data warehouse, and the opportunity it will provide for easy retrieval of information. Even if they await the actual development until the company is ready for it, they want a parallel planning process for what the data warehouse should look like. In this respect, they want to map out which form of architecture will suit them best.
1. Explain, in your own words, the difference between a Data Mart and a Data Warehouse.
2. Present and describe in your own words two types of data warehousearchitectures that you think will suit NODAS well, and argue why you mean it.
3. Create a star form that shows your assumption of what the information model of NODAS will typically look like. What opportunities does this model provide for reporting?
Expected length: approx. 900 words
Task 3
NODAS has not fully understood the ETL process and why this is important for the development of a data warehouse. In your own words, explain each step for setting up an ETL process in SAP, from mapping source data to loading data into the cube. Explain at each step why this is important and how it adds value for the next step in the process.Feel free to use shapes and screenshots from SAP BW.
Expected length: approx. 700 words
