Assessment Task
You will be required to keep a folio of different styles and forms of Business Communications (approximately 10 in number). This folio may be electronic (written or oral or visual) or hard copy. You will explore major areas of verbal communication, non-verbal communication, listening effectively, managing business relationships, resolving conflict, negotiating successfully, personal interactions, written communication for business, intercultural communication and social media. The folio will include examples of each of the forms of communication explored in weekly topics and a paragraph (250 words) critiquing each form of communication. (The above information is taken directly from the course description).
Additional information:
- The folio must be submitted via Moodle (Assessment section). It is not a report or essay and therefore does not require an Executive Summary, Introduction or Conclusion, however a table of contents may be helpful in structuring your content.
- After the cover sheet, students need to provide their own examples of styles and forms of business communication as folio pieces. Some examples include:
o a You Tube clip of an interview,
o a cover letter for a job application,
o a business email,
o an unsolicited letter,
o a suitable piece of business communication from social media, or
o a form of communication from an organisation's web site.
- Students should provide accessible links (where relevant), or word of pdf documents of their folio piece/s
- For each folio piece, students need to critique (250 words per folio piece x 10 pieces, total word count 2500) using relevant business communication theories, concepts and models from the course content. For example, "this You Tube clip demonstrates effective non-verbal communication because ...... Alternatively, this You Tube clip demonstrates in-effective non-verbal behaviour because ..... "using relevant theories, concepts and models
- The topic students choose to critique will vary depending on the folio piece. Some students will identify the theory e.g. effective listening and then source a suitable folio piece. Others may prefer to source the folio piece and that will inform the relevant topic concepts to explore
- The folio pieces must be forms of business communication
- In-text citation and referencing are required using APA style
