1. Draw a one-day eating plan (3 meals and at least 2 snacks) for a 20-yr old woman of an average BMI who is training for a marathon and needs 2400 calories per day.
TIPS
- Make sure you include adequate calories!
- Look at the MyPlate Plan for a 2400 calorie diet. This will tell you how many servings of each food group to include in your suggested meal plan.
- Did you include enough protein? Remember, protein needs of athletes may be a little higher than some groups.
- Don't forget to include portion size suggestions! Without knowing how much you're recommending, we can't determine if this athlete will obtain adequate calories, macronutrients, and micronutrients!
2. Protein quality can play a role in your health. Please answer both parts of the question:
a. Define the following two terms:
i) "Complete/High-Quality Protein"
ii) "Complimentary Protein Sources"
3. Provide a food example of each term (two total examples; remember complimentary proteins should include two foods that work together)
4. Explain at least three different connections between specific nutrients and disease prevention and management.
- Link each nutrient you discuss to a specific condition.
- Describe food sources of each of the three nutrients you select.
Example of ONE (you need three!): Adequate fiber intake is associated with a decreased risk of cardiovascular disease (Credible Source, 2019). Dietary fiber can be found in whole grains like whole wheat bread, brown rice, and oats. (Note: you may not use this example).
5. Pretend that you're making recommendations to yourself on your diet. Suggest three unique ways that you could improve your current intake. For full credit, I will need to see three (3) unique changes and at least three (3) in-text citations connected to a reference list.
Instructions:
- Make 3 unique suggestions that could improve your diet.
- Support each of the 3 suggestions with APA cited information from the course readings or other reliable, credible sources.
Example (You'll need 3 like this):
"I don't currently eat walnuts or almonds. I will start eating 1 ounce of almonds or walnuts daily to help improve my cholesterol level, which will reduce my risk for heart disease (Reliable Source, n.d.)."
6. A friend insists that it's impossible to survive long-term on a pescatarian diet. Describe at least two health benefits of a pescatarian diet to your friend. Include in-text citations and a reference list to back up your claims.
