Question - Did the Founding Fathers Fear Democracy?

Note: as with many of the challenging historical questions we examine this semester, it's not likely that a simple 'yes' or 'no' answer will suffice, and so I will look to see how sensitive your post is to the nuances, ambiguities, and contradictions of this history. Another way of looking at the question is: to what extent did the Constitution's framers 'fear' democracy, or at least specific aspects of democracy, and in what respects did they wish to preserve democracy? Part of what you'll have to do is explain what the various parties meant by 'democracy' and consider specific aspects of the Constitution.
