Food for a trip beyond the moon. Storing food for long periods of time is a major challenge for those planning for human space travel beyond the moon. One experiment examined the effects of nine different levels of radiation on a particular type of fat (lipid).8 The amount of oxidation of the fat is the measure of the extent of the damage due to the radiation.
