Case Scenario

Jane is a 52-year-old Torres Strait Islander woman who is diagnosed with Multiple sclerosis (MS). Jane was working as a secondary school teacher, and she was 26 years old when this diagnosis was made. Jane managed to continue the job for till she was 45 years and she had to stop because of the exacerbation of MS. Over the years, Jane had multiple MS attacks and lost the sight in her left eye, affecting her left arm, and developed cerebellar ataxia. It restricted Jane from many of her life activities. Jane is able to walk with the aid of a walking frame inside the house. She uses an electric wheelchair when she goes outside.

Jane is married and has a son who is living with his partner. Jane lives with her husband who is working full-time as an electrician. Jane's parents live nearby. Jane finds it hard that she is not able to support them as they need assistance due to their frailty. Janes has a past medical history of osteoporosis and depression. Jane sees her neurologist regularly. She also attempts to keep up with all the physical exercises. Jane reports to her community nurse that she gets more bad days than good in the last couple of months.
