Jessicah is 22 months old and has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Her primary service provider is an ITDS who works as a member of Jessicah's IFSP team. An occupational therapist and nurse are also on the team. One of the functional outcomes on Jessicah's IFSP is that she will be able to feed herself finger foods in order to participate in family mealtime. Mom realizes this will require increased fine motor stability. As an ITDS, the following may be the best option for coaching with mom at this time. suggest that mom try placing Jessicah's favorite food on the table in front of her and hope she will be self-motivated to try to reach it on her own suggest that mom use a gripper bowl which sticks to the table and contains firm food bites that are among Jessicah's favorite foods suggest that mom use a gripper bowl which sticks to the table and contains very soft food bites suggest to mom that given Jessicah's age and disability, it is not likely she will be able to finger feed at this time and this outcome may be unrealistic.
