A patient comes to the clinic for routine follow-up. He has diabetes and heart failure with reduced ejection fraction. On examination, blood pressure is 135/86 mmHg, and heart rate is 62 beats per minute. Oxygen saturation is normal. Jugular veins are mildly distended. Heart rhythm is regular, with no appreciable murmurs or gallops. There is 2+ bilateral pitting edema. Laboratory findings are normal; hemoglobin A1c is 7.4%. What is the most appropriate next step?
