Trying to figure out how to calculate a standard deviation.
An observation from normally distributed population is considered unusual if it is more than 2 stand. deviations aways from the mean. There are several contaminants that harm citys water. Nitrate concentrations above 10 ppm (parts per mill) are toxic. The city reports nitrate concentration in citys drinking water supply is tween 1.59 and 2.52 ppm and values outside of this rante are unjusual. Assume population mean (mu) - 2 stand. deviations = 1.59 ppm and population mean (mu) + 2 stand. deviations = 2.52 ppm. Its reasonable to assume measured nitrate concenctration is normally distributed.
Question asks, estimate stan. deviation of the measured nitrate concentrations in citys water
