This article from Nature Research talks about the development of vaccines for COVID-19. A group of six experts in vaccine development share their approaches as well as their thoughts on manufacturing an immense amount of vaccines. Rino Rappuoli, the Chief Scientist and Head of External Research and Development states, "you have to take the synthetic gene, produce a protein, purify and then do trials, while with RNA you take the synthetic gene and you transcribe and you make your RNA and that's it". As nonchalant as Rappuoli anticipates his approach is strong targeting against the RNA, proteins, and ribosomes of the virus. The vaccine must target an essential aspect of the virus that humans don't have. However, the urgency of the vaccine and with new technology there can be a lot of room for scientific failures. Nature publishes academic journals, magazines, online databases, and services in science and medicine. This scientific journal was first published in 1869 and received a reward for Inspiring and Innovating Science.
