The development of software and systems requires business organizations to consider a multitude of variables that influence whether to design and implement software systems in-house or whether to use some type of service provider, of which there are many types from which to choose, outside the business organization. Although vastly simplifying the concept, the considerations can be split among two overarching options: build and buy. For this discussion, outline variables or factors that influence business organizations when determining whether to design and implement software systems in-house (build) or design and implement software systems using one or more third-party service providers (buy).
