HCA 620 MEDIA: Capstone Project
A major objective of HCA 620 is to prepare students for their final capstone project that will be due at the end of their academic program in HCA 699 Evidence-Based Research Project. This is the culminating activity of all previous coursework. Your capstone project is a major endeavor requiring a considerable amount of planning, research, and writing. If a student waits until they are actually enrolled in HCA 699 to begin working on their capstone project, disaster is the likely result. Therefore, students are required to demonstrate the progress of their capstone project in HCA 620.
This is the official course description of HCA 699 Evidence-Based Research Project:
This capstone course provides an opportunity for students to complete the development of a comprehensive evidence-based project, plan, or proposal that addresses a problem, issue, or concern in their professional practice and can be implemented upon completion of the program. Projects address a problem amenable to research-based intervention; include a relevant and comprehensive literature review; propose a solution; and include a fully developed program, project, or business plan. The project also contains all the necessary information to implement the proposed solution, evaluate its outcome(s), and disseminate the findings. Prerequisite: HCA 675.
Evidence-Based Research Project Proposal Overview
1) Throughout HCA 699 Evidence-Based Research Project you will develop a formal, evidence-based practice proposal.
2) The proposal is the plan for an evidence-based research project designed to address a problem, issue, or concern in the professional work setting. Although several types of evidence can be used to support a proposed solution, a sufficient and compelling base of support from valid research studies is required as the major component of that evidence. Proposals are submitted in a format suitable for obtaining formal approval in the work setting. Proposals will vary in length depending upon the problem or issue addressed; they can be between 3,500 and 5,000 words. The cover sheet, abstract, references page, and appendices are not included in the word limit.
3) Section headings and letters for each section component are required. Responses are addressed in narrative form in relation to that number. Evaluation of the proposal in all sections is based upon the extent to which the depth of content reflects graduate-level critical-thinking skills.
4) The Evidence-Based Research Project Proposal will contain six formal sections:
a) Section A: Organizational Culture and Readiness Assessment
b) Section B: Problem Description
c) Section C: Literature Support
d) Section D: Solution Description
e) Section E: Change Model
f) Section F: Implementation Plan
g) Section G: Evaluation of Process
The capstone project is a major undertaking that will require a significant amount of time to complete. Therefore, it is important that you start working on it now!
