You have just learned that a new child will be entering your 3 year old preschool classroom on Monday.  He can hear but does not communicate verbally.  His mother and father are both deaf.  He is communicating fluently with his parents and others in the deaf community in sign language.  His parents have communicated to the director, in writing, that they are concerned about their child learning verbal language and being able to communicate with peers and teachers.  They are concerned about him learning to read and write.

• What resources would you need to support his development in the areas his parents are concerned about? 
• Are there other developmental domains that you would be worried about for him? 
• Are there local resources in your area that could provide assistance to you (as the teacher) and the child's parents?
