Title: Developing biophotonic methods for the identification of bacteria in complex matrices

Aims and Objectives: The aim is to investigate biophotonic methods in order to identify bacteria/toxins present in complex matrices using Raman spectroscopy predominately due to frequently occurring bio-warfare agent attacks, this increasing the current screening methods for future incidents.

Objectives;
• To determine the concentration needed of the chosen bacteria (Bacillus Subtilis) in a sample to be clearly identified.
• To investigate how the type of matrices will affect the determination of bacteria present in a sample.
• To improve current screening methods for detection of bacteria/toxins in bio-warfare agent attacks.
• To analyse the data and find clear indication of bacteria in a given sample by using computation analytical methods.
