Somewhere, right now, hackers are researching systems and developing new exploits to defeat security controls. Through their efforts, they may gain a deeper understanding of system and network vulnerabilities. Therefore, hackers might be able to conceal, alter, and/or remove traces of their intrusions from IT personnel.
To counter hackers, law enforcement and IT security professionals must be proactive in developing and advancing new technologies. Before they can be deployed, these technologies must be researched and tested extensively-especially digital forensics techniques and tools, which must withstand legal scrutiny.
To prepare for this Discussion, visit the Digital Forensics Research Workshop Standards (DFRWS) website and select a paper/presentation that interests you. The paper/presentation should not be older than two years.
Post a 350- to 500-word response in which you explain what forensic problems are being investigated and what solutions are proposed. Explain if the problems are gaps in knowledge, limitations, and/or something else. Also, provide an example of how you might apply this research to forensics investigations.
