Respond to the following school problem:
As the social worker in a middle school with 400 students in a state and local community where opioid addiction has grown to epidemic proportions. Just in the county (population 67,000) where your school is located there have been 33 deaths from opioid overdose so far in the current year. Four of these were high school students.
Although there have been no deaths in the middle school, seven students have lost a parent, 14 have been removed from parents and are living in foster homes, and the rate of absenteeism, failing grades, and drug use on school grounds has nearly doubled since last year. The principal of your school has put you in charge of developing a prevention-intervention system to address this life-threatening problem in the school.
Using the MTSS (Multi-tiered System of Support) model model as explained in the readings, lecture, and discussions of this unit, briefly explain the program that you would seek to develop to address this problem in the school.
1. Be specific in describing the plan at each level.
2. Explain how students would be identified and referred for level 2 and level 3 interventions.
3. What potential barriers and challenges would be implemented the system?
