Developing a Focus Statement will help get you closer to the root of the challenge you are wanting to address. For this week's activity you will need to relate to the re-defining problems, articulating multiple definitions, and writing focus statements.

Please complete the following exercise:

1) Choose one of the following challenge statements and consider 'multiple definitions' for this statement. You should be able to describe 5 or more alternative ways (i.e. perspectives, underlying reasons) that re-define what is at the heart of this problem statement.

• Most people think that climate change is not solvable
  One person is not going to be able to make any real difference to the state of the world
  Businesses don't have a role to play in solving societal issues

2) After you have developed multiple definitions, you next need to develop 3 Focus Statements for the challenge area you chose above. Ensure that each Focus Statement starts with an action-verb to detail what you want to achieve in a positive way, a focus that states what you want, and lastly a qualifier which outlines why you are doing it.
