Scenario:
Lodestone Mines is committed to developing a Lodestone Mines is committed to developing a mining, mineral processing and multi-user infrastructure solution for the Braemar region of South Australia.
Lodestone Mines through subsidiary Braemar Infrastructure is proposing to develop multi-purpose infrastructure corridors that will provide a low cost - high volume export solution for iron ore mined in the Braemar Region. The ore from the first project from this group of companies will be from the ‘Olary Flats' Project. The infrastructure includes roads, electricity and water to support and facilitate mining in the Braemar Region. The Olary Flats and Braemar Infrastructure Projects are a major investment in South Australia and has the potential to bring in many jobs, and grow the local and State economy. The region of interest is near towns like Broken Hill and also potentially includes many Indigenous sites of significance. Lodestone is keen to progress this project and wishes to develop a community engagement strategy that will enable it to proceed to the next stages.
Task: You are employed by Lodestone to develop a community engagement strategy for them. What are the key issues? Who will you consult? What strategies will you use, and what tools to undertake the engagement? What conflicts may arise? How would you suggest managing them?
