Question
I need a discussion post on this, please: Throughout my career, I have had many mentors. Of those mentors each of them had there own style of leadership. The mentor that I developed the deepest connection with was a charge nurse that I shared the same role with. Her leadership style was that of a transformational leader. She would inspire others, including myself to be the best. We started the role closely together, as it was a new role within the organization. We learned from each other.
Through her words, actions, and behaviors I witnessed authenticity. She would motivate others beyond their comfort zone, as she identified their strengths and opportunities (CFI Team, n.d). Her support was instrumental as we faced challenges together. The Nurse Journal states that a mentor can help during times of unsupported work environments, dissatisfaction with a job, stress, and burnout. These situations were all things that we experienced within the new charge nurse role.
As we learned together, becoming leaders of our teams, we developed a natural relationship. She was trustworthy, reliable, encouraging, a great listener, and always available, (Nurse Journal Staff, 2023). I always looked to her to share everyday work experiences and challenges. Even though we may not have seen ourselves as a leader during that time, she truly was to me, as well as a mentor. As I've learned about transformational leaders, she was the prime example of the that leadership style.
