Research Topic: My research topic is the advantages and disadvantages of attending college immediately after high school, along with the benefits to waiting and attending as an adult learner.
Research Question: Do the experiences, skills, attitudes, and approach to college by adult students differ from the traditional-age student and make it more advantageous to wait before starting college?
Stage 1 - Annotated Bibliography
Required - 8 sources
250-300 words for each critical annotation
Types required:
• Only one (1) website. Note: This does not include journal articles from online databases but it does include online newspaper articles.
• At least three (3) sources should be peer-reviewed scholarly sources.
• Include a variety of types of sources (academic journal articles, newspaper articles, books, etc.).
• Sources must provide a variety of perspectives on the topic selected.
• Book reviews, editorials, and opinion pieces are not appropriate sources for this project.
Stage 2 - Working Thesis Statement
Preliminary argument based on the research
Essentially, it is the answer to the main research question. The working thesis statement needs to include clearly identifiable claim and reasons.

Stage 3 - Inquiry-Driven Academic Argument
• Present an argument in response to the research question.
• Paper should be organized around argumentative thesis statement--the answer to the research question, based on the research.
• Develop thesis through a series of claims and reasons that will lead reader to accept position or point of view in response to research question.
• Claims and reasons should be supported with ample evidence from the research.
• Needs to be clear, specific, and arguable thesis about topic and support it with logical reasoning and evidence.
• Minimum of 8 pages, double spaced
• Incorporate the 8 sources from the Annotated Bibliography Assignment
Stage 4 - Reflection Essay
Three-page essay, assess work and experience writing the research paper.
Evaluate and describe what can be learned from academic writing and research
What research skills can be developed in the research process
