Question: When an individual looks to develop their own website to be published on the internet, they should first understand their hosting needs (Hollaway, 2017). This will allow them to find a good web host that can support their bandwidth and data storage needs (Hollaway, 2017). With the world wide web being accessible on computers, tablets and cell phones, the information contained on the site must be written in code that is compatible on all devices (Carey, 2018).
When searching for a web host, you would need to ensure their site is compatible with all devices. You may also look at what help desk support they have for issues that arise if someone cannot access the site. As you work through the process of finding a web host, you may not know everything you need, so you would want to also look at the cost and whether they offer a reasonable way to upgrade your hosting account (Hollaway, 2017).
Once you have your website plan and found a web host, you need a domain name that is easy for users to find your website. Depending on the type of content on the site, there may be different extensions to the domain name to give people an indication of what type of information is contained on the site (Carey, 2018).
For instance, .edu is reserved for educational institutions, .gov is for government sites, and .com is for commercial and general-use (Carey, 2018). According to Seki (2021), To pick your site domain name, you want to consider these three criteria: 1) The domain name should be 3 words or less with a maximum of 20 characters; 2) Since most people are use to using .com, your domain name should end with .com; 3) The most important key is to have a domain name that is easy to remember.
Overall, if an individual takes the time to plan out what they need from a web host and come up with a good domain name, they may see higher traffic to their site than someone that doesn't put the effort into proper planning. Reference: Carey, P. (2018).
