Assignment - Conveyor Belt Case Study Project

Prompt - In this activity, you will develop a work breakdown structure (WBS) for the conveyor belt project described in your textbook. This will give you practice developing a WBS before you do so for your Medical Informatics case study as part of your final project.

Read the project description in Part 1 of the conveyor belt project onp. 626 of your textbook (Project Management: The Managerial Process). Use table A2.9 to complete the exercises.

Develop the WBS outline using MS Project. Make sure that you save your WBS for use in a follow-up activity in Module Six.

Note: While the exercise in the textbook does not specifically state not to include dates, the table with the tasks does not include dates. Besides learning how to use MS Project, the authors of the textbook are trying to have you use critical thinking. Even those with project management backgrounds, sometimes have to put their experience on-hold. As project managers, we must realize each project is different. A project sponsor may give you a project only providing what they want without specific start and end dates. You can create a basic MS Project file with only the tasks and not include the dates. You just delete the dates the program applies. At this point, it is a partial WBS. Understandably, most project managers would start applying dates; however, by working with only the information you are given lessens the chance you make incorrect decisions.
