Problem

For your midterm essay assignment, select two of the following topics and write a well developed approximately one page response for each of the topics:

A. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC-non-regulatory) has played a major role in developing infection control guidelines/recommendations, as well as assisted in implementing interventions for multiple aspects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Do some exploring and report on at least one aspect of the agency's role.

B. You were just hired as a Director of Quality for a regional group of 15 private medical offices throughout New York City. They are still using a paper medical record, as they didn't want to be bothered with the transition and the staff prefer manual records, as they are still computer illiterate. You have the responsibility of collaborating with an external consultant to implement a new electronic medical record. Develop a plan for implementation of the new EMR, including staff education, as well as any requirements from a QI perspective.

C. Scenario: You are the Administrator of a 200 bed Nursing Home located in the Bronx New York. You conducted an internal 20 question customer satisfaction survey for the long and (20 bed) short-term unit. The CNAs helped the residents complete the surveys as required. The response rate was 7% and the score for each survey question related to staff attitude and satisfaction with services provided by each discipline all scored below 60%. Develop a detailed corrective action plan to include improving the response rate i.e., a more effective and objective way to disseminate surveys, as well as methodologies to address the low scores in staff attitude, poor communication, lack of cleanliness, insufficient activities, delays in care, poor patient outcomes.

D. Using your knowledge of PDSA, select a potentially identified issue/concern and develop the PDSA steps to take a QI team through the process of resolving the issue.
