Assignment:

To help you begin to develop the developmental portfolio, we are going to start with completing an anecdotal record. You are going to start by identifying a child that you will use to complete a developmental portfolio for the remainder of the semester. As you choose a child, make sure to select a child that you will have access to for the rest of the semester.

To begin.....

You will choose a developmental domain from the FOUNDATIONS book to observe with your child.

This anecdotal record should focus specifically on the developmental domain you have chosen. Make sure you use objective language. In other words, your observation should consist of facts rather than opinions.

Your completed anecdotal record should include 3 sections:

The written narrative of the observation
A developmental interpretation of the observation based on scholarly and sound research and educational practices (at least 2)
A description of activities to address the developmental needs of your case study child.

Remember, this assignment is designed to help you gain an awareness of your case study child as an individual rather than as a part of a homogenous group, to acquire a thorough understanding of children's individual learning needs with a focus on strengths and weaknesses, and to develop strategies that will meet those needs.
