Assessment - Healthcare Strategic Proposal
Assessment: Design and develop strategic plans required for healthcare organisations and stakeholder groups to perform in the competitive healthcare sector
In addition to developing your strategic thinking skills in a healthcare context, this assessment is designed to support you during job interviews. The question of COVID-19 most likely will come up during interviews and you need to be able to think about what you might say to your employer during the interview process.
What you are required to do:
Develop a 5-year strategic plan (2022-2026) that could be used to resource and make operational the activities of a private, or not-for-profit, or public healthcare organisation of your choice in the context of COVID-19. Ideally, you will work on the organisation you selected in Assessment 2 Regis healthcare
You need to look at all the environmental factors that is or could potentially exert influence on your selected organisation with a specific focus on COVID-19 and formulate appropriate strategies to ensure its on-going success in the next five (2022-2026) years.
Your intended audience for this strategic proposal is the Executive Team of your selected organisation who will use your information for making strategic-decisions. You need to make sure the strategies in your proposal are credible, well thought through and based on data and sound research and well justified.

2. STRATEGIC ISSUES FACING THE ORGANISATION IN RELATION TO COVID-19
3. ANALYSIS OF APPROACHES ADOPTED BY OTHER ORGANISATIONS FROM THE SAME HEALTH SECTOR IN RELATION TO COVID-19
4. BUSINESS MODEL PROPOSAL
5. STRATEGIES TO BE ADOPTED BY THE ORGANISATION
6. STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Assessment Criteria:
1. INTRODUCTION
State the name of the organization and healthcare it operates, the objective of the report and preview (No more than 4 lines)..
2. STRATEGIC ISSUES FACING THE ORGANISATION IN RELATION TO COVID-19: (10 Marks)
• Provide a clear assessment of the key issues facing your selected organisation in relation to COVID-19.
• What are the issues and where are they occurring within the organisation. Justify your responses by discussing the impact on the organisation/stakeholders.
3. ANALYSIS OF APPROACHES ADOPTED BY OTHER ORGANISATIONS FROM THE SAME HEALTH SECTOR IN RELATION TO COVID-19:
• Evaluate and discuss how other organisations (two or more) from within the same health sector responded to Covid-19 ie what strategies did they put in place and how well did they work?
• You may wish to use a table with a set of criteria to present your information and analysis on how well the strategies are working so far.
4. BUSINESS MODEL TO MINIMISE THE IMPACT OF COVID-19 ON THE ORGANISATION:
• How do you propose the organisation should be structured to operate (business model) into the future (next 5 years). Propose and discuss a business model that the organisation could adopt in various settings of the organisation providing a strong rationale/justification for its adoption.
• If your selected organisation has already implemented a model for COVID-19 what changes do you propose?
Examples;
1. Staffing model
2. Sample collection model
3. Provision of quality service to the patient model during COVID-19 outbreak
4. Visitation model
5. Patient consultation model
6. Service delivery through technology model
7. Supply chain model
8. Decentralisation model
9. Staff and patient safety model, etc.
OUTLINE OTHER APPROPRIATE STRATEGIES (GOALS) TO BE ADOPTED BY THE ORGANISATION
• Consider the models outlined above and the issues highlighted earlier that are impacting the organisation, develop strategies that the organisation could implement in relation to various stakeholders and discuss how these strategies serve their needs. Examples;
Staffing Model
1. What strategy(ies) do you propose for ensuring that they have sufficiently well-trained staff?
2. What strategy(ies) do you propose if healthcare workers have to go into isolation if they test positive to Covid-19 even when vaccinated? Ie what measures should they have in place if something like that happens. Etc.
Provision of quality service to the patient Model
1. What strategy(ies) do you propose for the organisation to continue to provide quality care to patients?
2. What strategy(ies) do you propose for the organisation to protect patients from contracting Covid- 19? Etc.
Technology Model
1. How can technology support patient and staff safety during a new Covid-19 outbreak.
Make sure that your strategies are justified in the context of the strategic issues identified and the proposed business model
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Consider the strategies that you proposed earlier and provide a clear plan of action (Does not have to be detailed). What specific steps (actions) should your organisation take in the short-term to implement the proposed strategies. For example,
Strategy (Goal) Objective (What do you need to do to ensure the goal is met?)
Protecting patient from contracting Covid-19 Ensure adequate supply of PPE
Staff on ward vaccinated Etc.
Ensuring availability of sufficient staff Active recruitment and training of staff, etc.
In short you are looking to outline the steps that the organisation could take to achieve the proposed strategic goals including resourcing.
THEORY AND RESEARCH
• Integrate theoretical considerations to support your analysis and recommendations where possible. This will bring credibility to your strategic proposal.
