Business Ethics for a Digital Society Assignment : Report
Assignment description
This assignment involves a scenario-based analysis of the ethical implications of the adoption and implementation of advanced digital technologies by government and business. You will identify/ develop at least 2 real or hypothetical scenarios, of the adoption of new technologies by businesses, upon which you will critically analyse the ethical implications for society and develop a discussion of how such situations may be prevented, resolved or mitigated.
Suggested approach to developing assignment
This assignment focuses on new technologies (digital transformation), organisations (organisational behaviour), society (including individuals) and ethics. However, it has a specific emphasis on "business ethics". Businesses have a responsibility to ensure that the technologies they adopt, and implement do not have negative impacts on individuals and society. Your task is to develop real or hypothetical scenarios of technology adoption by business organisations and critically assess any potential ethical issues.
Therefore, the following questions should be used to guide both your reading and the development of the discussion. You, however, SHOULD NOT use these as section headings. The questions include:
1. What technologies are being adopted?
2. What might some of the ethical considerations be (for individuals and society)?
3. How should the organisation(s) go about managing potential ethical issues?
Suggested structure
Your report should be clear, logical and be supported by appropriate references. You may use a wide variety of sources to develop this assignment, as long as they are used and applied appropriately. For example, you can use website sources to
identify/build your scenarios while, you must use academic sources to illustrate and support any arguments you develop on the topic.
The following headings may be used as a guide to how you may organise your report (remember this is only a suggested guide and not to be taken as the recommended structure):
1. Introduction (what is this report about and what does is aim to achieve?)
2. The scenario (a clear and comprehensive description of the scenario including the organisation type, the kind of business, the technology changes)
3. The potential ethical implications of the business's technology adoption (for individuals, for society)
4. Approaches to managing ethical issues (consider both before the adoption, i.e., how to analyse, anticipate and plan for any ethical issues and after, i.e., how to manage and mitigate ethical impacts)
5. Conclusions, including who is responsible for the ethics of business technology change
6. References 5 academic references- Harvard style.
