Instructions: Develop a project scope statement and work breakdown structure (WBS) for the project.

You may use Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, or Microsoft Visio to complete this assignment. You may optionally use project management scheduling software to create the WBS. Note that use of project management scheduling software is optional and not required.

Refer to chapter 4 of your textbook for examples of project scope statements and layouts of a WBS. A good WBS example is shown in Figure 4.4.

The Retail Store prides itself on being a convenient "one stop shop" location for quality products and affordable prices. In doing so, TRS is working towards the vision of being the leading retailer as measured by fiscal results and community advocacy. Although there are many things The Retail Store does wonderfully such as customer service and clean store fronts in three different small towns, there is room for improvement. The goal for the upcoming year is to achieve annual sales of at least $5 million. With annual sales sitting at $3.2 million for the last fiscal year, that leaves an additional $1.8 million to make in addition to the $3.2 in the upcoming year. A priority analysis has been completed for all of the desired objectives and achieving the additional revenue takes first priority. So, as the product analysis was completed, the weighted score of all projects was used to determine which project would take the highest priority in order to achieve the additional $1.8 million in revenue. In conclusion, we found that increasing the products by 10 percent will be the best choice for The Retail Store.

Increasing store products carried by 10 percent is the cheapest fiscal option for The Retail Store. Creating a new store costs significantly more money that does not seem faceable at this point. In order to reach 5 million dollars in revenue, TRS needs an immediate solution to make more sales. Starting a new store not only takes money but also time. It can have the potential to take upwards to half a year to find a building, equip the building, hire employees, and have the store stocked and ready to go before opening. Between the money and time, it is not a reasonable option to complete at this time.

Also, in addition to increasing store projects by 10 percent, it is absolutely feasible to participate in the improvement of at least 10 low income communities throughout the state. TRS could easily begin an outreach program at all three of their locations. Implementing a supply and canned food drive will be extremely beneficial. Two drop boxes will be placed at each entrance of stores as well as at the customer service counter. One drop box will be for canned food or non-perishable foods and the other will be for supplies such as toiletries, diapers, and paper products. Proper signage will explain to customers what the drop boxes are and all employees will be trained on offering the opportunity to donate to customers. It will also be advertised that any over stock or products with damaged packages will automatically be donated by the store in order to chore participation. Customers seeing TRS participating will feel led to help make a difference for the less fortunate. The community outreach will also boost sales because customers will purchase additional products in order to donate. Management will coordinate with local outreach facilities for pickup of the donated products.

The Retail Store's mission statement is "offer our customers convenience, quality, and great prices. By doing so, we strive to make each and every community a better place to live". By increasing store products offered by 10 percent, they are providing their customers with more conveniences, quality, and great prices on even more products. TRS takes pride in offering 2,500 core products from America's most-trusted manufactures and they can add to that list by broadening what they carry. TRS will look to offer more products from their local communities to help improve their small towns that they are a part of. Offering 10 percent more products will help increase revenues and help their communities while having the cheapest overhead which is why The Retail Store will move forward with this option.
