It is critical that the General Manager /Administrator has the necessary insight, knowledge, and skills to respond and serve the community they manage effectively. This is important for those working with a senior population facing numerous personal struggles and health barriers and adapting to living in a retirement community. We aim to provide them with a meaningful lifestyle and exceptional quality of life.
Purpose of Assignment:
The case study exercise will help students identify the appropriate response to scenarios they may encounter while managing a retirement residence. As well as develop some confidence in managing effectively and problem-solving to address any issues related to care, food services and other areas of operation of the home.

Review the scenario, assess the situation and ask yourself what may need to be done to address the scenario. You will develop and provide a detailed plan on how specific steps or courses of action would need to be taken to address the situation.
Case study
The RHRA conducted a mandatory inspection for a complaint filed by a family member related to a resident being rushed and handled roughly while receiving assistance with their ADLs.
During the inspection, the home was in non-compliance for not following the zero-tolerance policy and procedure based on the complaint filed.
The inspectors found the Licensee failed to report an incident of witnessed and alleged staff-to-resident physical abuse to the Register. The investigation was delayed, and the residence had not notified RHRA of the incident once it had been brought to their attention by a family member.
She also stated concerns that the staff had noted they did not have access to the zero-tolerance policy and procedures; therefore, they did not know what to do. You were also found in non-compliance related to staff training and training for new employees and the lack of supporting documentation specific to mandatory training requirements.
You are required to respond to the Inspector's finding and provide the RRHA with your plan of action. Identify and detail the specific steps you will take to address the non-compliance to RHRA. What needs to happen to ensure we are in compliance with the legislation? Also, detail what systems you will put in place to ensure you maintain compliance related to education and Zero tolerance for abuse moving forward and staff training.
