This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop and maintain information and data systems to support decision making, and to optimise the use of knowledge and learning throughout the organisation.

The unit applies to individuals who are responsible for ensuring that critical business information is readily available to review the organisation's performance and to ensure its effective functioning. It applies to a wide range of information assets such as business performance data, customer feedback, statistical data and financial data.

Performance Evidence
The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to:
• manage knowledge and information for an organisation or work area.
In the course of the above, the candidate must:
• source and analyse information for business decisions including:
• identifying business problems and issues and related knowledge and data requirements
• confirming the clear and relevant objectives for analysis of information
• applying statistical analysis, sensitivity analysis and other techniques to draw conclusions relevant to decisions
• ensuring sufficient valid and reliable information or evidence is available to support decisions
• identifying and accessing sources of reliable information
• using applicable technology
• carrying out consultation with stakeholders and specialists
• contribute information and the outcomes of analysis to decision making
• distribute information to relevant stakeholders
• design, test and adjust information systems to meet needs and objectives.

Assesment 2 - Practical Assessment

The Practical Assessment is a set of tasks that must be completed in a workplace or simulated environment where the conditions are typical of those in a working environment in this industry.
To be assessed for this unit of competency, you must demonstrate your skills and knowledge to develop and maintain information and data systems to support decision making, and to optimise the use of knowledge and learning throughout the organisation. It applies to a wide range of information assets such as business performance data, customer feedback, statistical data and financial data.
The Practical Assessments in this workbook include:
1. Workplace Project Assessment
A series of tasks assessing the learner's practical knowledge and skills relevant to the unit of competency. This includes the learner completing workplace documents or similar as evidence of competent performance.
2. Workplace Practical Observation
A set of assessment tasks where the learner must demonstrate practical skills relevant to the unit of competency. These skills are to be demonstrated while being observed by the assessor.

Project Overview
This workplace project assessment requires you to manage business knowledge and information for an organisation or work area by collecting and analysing business information and knowledge, deciding rectification for business issues, and distributing information to the organisation.
This assessment is divided into 10 tasks:
• Task 1: Collect and Analyse Business Information
• Task 2: Source Reliable and Valid Information on Business Issues
• Task 3: Analyse Information for Organisational Requirements
• Task 4: Adjust Decision-Support Systems
• Task 5: Consult Stakeholders and Specialists to Make Decisions on Business Issues
• Task 6: Design Systems and Communication Plan
• Task 7: Test Information Systems

This project requires you to complete the assessment tasks in a real workplace or simulated environment where the conditions are typical of those in a working environment in this industry.
Each task comes with a set of instructions. You are to follow and perform these instructions while being observed by the assessor and/or submit any required documentation as evidence of task completion.
Before starting this assessment, your assessor will discuss with you these tasks, including instructions, resources, and guidance for satisfactorily completing them.

You are required to:
• Complete the tasks within the time allowed, as scheduled in-class roll.

Task 1: Collect and Analyse Business Information

• Access and source the following information for developing information and data systems to support decision-making:

o At least two types of business performance data relevant to staff and customer feedback outlined
This may be data that reflect on your organisation's performance and indicate growth or decline.
• Review the sourced information and:
o Identify at least two business issues
o Provide a description that defines each issue
o Identify at least one business problem caused by each issue
• Analyse each issue to identify the following information required to reach a business decision on resolving the issue:
o At least two related knowledge requirements
o At least two related data requirements

• Evaluate and critique the knowledge and data requirements to assess their sufficiency and ability to resolve the issues, by identifying the following for each knowledge and data identified:

To complete this task, you must:
• Source and review each information source that must be reviewed to assist in resolving each business issue from Workplace Project Task 1.
• Consult at least two relevant stakeholders to:

o Consult stakeholder to gather their knowledge on how to resolve each business issue.
o Review each collected relevant knowledge from stakeholder and information sources to confirm if these are:
• Relevant
• Sufficient
• Reliable
• Valid
• Free from ambiguous or contradictory information
• Complete the table in the following pages based on consultation with stakeholders

Review Workplace Project Task 2 - Assessor's Checklist before starting this task. This form outlines the following:
• Resources you are required to access to complete the task.
• All criteria your submission must address to satisfactorily complete this task.
Your assessor will discuss these resources with you, and the criteria outlined in this form prior to this assessment.

Task 3: Analyse Information for Organisational Requirements

This task will require you to analyse the information you sourced in Workplace Project Task 2 and prepare an Information Analysis Report.
Use your workplace/organisation's template to complete this task, or use the Information Analysis Report template provided at the Bounce Fitness site.

To complete this task, you must:
• Access and review organisational decision-making framework.
Decisions-making frameworks are principles, processes or practices used by an organisation to synthesise data, information and objectives to develop decisions that yield consistent and effective results.
• For each business issue identified in Workplace Project Task 1, develop at least one analysis objective that is:
o Clear
The analysis objective must be SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time-bound).
o Relevant
The analysis objective must be relevant to the business issue.
o Consistent
The analysis objective must be consistent with the organisational requirements for decision-making.
• Analyse the information sourced and knowledge collected from stakeholders in Workplace Project Task 2 based on:
This must be information and knowledge that you accepted as reliable and valid.
o At least one statistical method for analysing each business issue
These may include techniques such as correlation calculations, long-term trend analyses, probability assessment, regulation analyses, short to medium-term trend analyses.
o At least one sensitivity analysis foe each business issues
This refers the analysis of how certain variables or factors of a business issues is affected by changes in other variables.

• Identify the following based on the statistical and sensitivity analysis conducted:
o Identify at least one pattern for each business issue
A pattern is a data that assessed data and information displays recognisable form, such as a straight line or bell curve.
o Identify at least one emerging trend for each business issue
An emerging trend is the general direction the data is appearing taking over a period of time.
o Interpretation of each identified pattern and trend
• Draw at least one conclusion for each business issues. Each conclusion must include the following:
o Summary of how information and knowledge reviewed can assist in resolving business issue
o Outlines at least two areas of improvement that must be applied to current systems and process based on findings
• Prepare an Information Analysis Report including all items listed above.
o Outline the written sources of information accessed to develop the report.
o Include annexures for the following:
• Extracts of organisational documents you used to identify the organisational requirements for decision-making.
• Summary of your analysis and conclusions drawn.
• Version control history

This task will require you to adjust information and knowledge management decision-support systems based on the Information Analysis Report you prepared in Workplace Project Task 3.
To complete this task, you must:
• Access and identify the following information systems in your workplace:
o Information management decision-support system
o Knowledge management decision-support system

• Adjust each system by making modifications based on:
o The information needs (requirements) identified in Workplace Task 1.

o Conclusions drawn in Workplace Task 3.

Review Workplace Project Task 4 - Assessor's Checklist before starting this task. This form outlines the following:
• Resources you are required to access to complete the task.
• All criteria your submission must address to satisfactorily complete this task.
Your assessor will discuss these resources with you, and the criteria outlined in this form prior to this assessment.
Submit the following to your assessor:
• The original and modified documentation for the information management decision-support system, highlighting the modifications made.
• The original and modified documentation for the knowledge management decision-support system, highlighting the modifications made.

Task 5: Consult Stakeholders and Specialists to Make Decisions on Business Issues

Your assessor will observe you as youconduct a meeting to consult at least two stakeholders and at least two specialists and make decisions on the business issues identified in Workplace Project Task 1.
Before you meet with the stakeholders and specialists, access documents that describe the following in relation to information and knowledge management in your organisation:

During the meeting you will be assessed on your practical skills to:
• Explain and confirm the objectives, values, and standards you have identified based on information gathered from Workplace Project Task 3.
• Outline information gathered from Workplace Project Task 2 and Workplace Project Task 3 relevant to resolving each business issue.
• Develop at least one risk management plan for each business issues, which must include each of the following:
o Identify and assess at least two risks to decision-making including, at least:
• Risk probability
• Risk impact
• The control measure for each identified risk
using at least two quantitative methods.
o At least two possible courses of action for resolving each business issue in line with the organisational values and standards.

• Use at least one quantitative method for assessing each course of action identified.
• Consult the stakeholders and specialists on the acceptable decisions. You must:
o Present your experience and views on the courses of action and acceptable decisions.
o Ask the stakeholders and specialists for their views on the courses of action and acceptable decisions you have presented.
o Reach consensus and make a decision for each business issue identified in Workplace Project Task 1.
o Confirm how the decisions are consistent with the organisational objectives, values, and standards you identified earlier.
o Select most suitable course of action to resolve each business issue based on analysis

Review Workplace Project Task 5 - Observation Form before starting this task. This form outlines all the practical skills you need to demonstrate to satisfactorily complete this task. Your assessor will also discuss with you the practical skills outlined in this form prior to the assessment.

Task 6: Design Systems and Communication Plan

Use your workplace/organisation's template to complete this task, or use the Information Systems Report and Information Distribution Communication Plantemplates provided at the Bounce Fitness site.
To complete this task, you must:
• Access and review the Information Analysis Report you prepared in Workplace Project Task 3 to confirm that it documents at least two organisational information requirements for decision-making.
• Access and review the following in relation to managing knowledge and information:
o Federal and/or state/territory legislation, regulation, or best practice related to environmental protection and corporate sustainability actions
• Design at least one information management system and at least one knowledge system for each business issue based on agreed course of action from Workplace Project Task 6.

Ensure that information management system is able to provide parameters for the following:
o Information or knowledge requirements that must be managed by each system based on identified course of action from Workplace Project Task 6
o Steps for collecting, storing and synthesising information for the purpose of decision-making.

• Prepare a partially-completed Information Systems Report including all items listed above.
o Outline the written sources of information accessed to develop the report.
o Include annexures for the following:
• Extracts of legislation, regulations, standards and codes of practice relevant to managing knowledge and information that you used to complete this task.
• Version Control History
Leave blank the following sections:
o Information Systems Testing
o Information Systems Update and Maintenance
• Develop a communication plan for information distribution, including a schedule for monitoring and updating the plan. Identify the following in the communication plan:
o At least one communication activity to distribute information gathered for each information and knowledge system designed.

o Key personnel responsible for the implementation of this activity
o Information to be communicated to stakeholders to successfully implement the activity
o Communication method to be used

• Test each information and knowledge systems to meet the organisational information requirements for decision-making that you designed in Workplace Project Task 6.

• Update the partially-completed Information Systems Report you prepared in Workplace Project Task 6 to incorporate:
o The testing activities you conducted
o The outcomes of the testing activities

This task will require you to update and maintain systems you tested in Workplace Project Task 7.
Use your workplace/organisation's template to complete this task, or use the Information Systems Report template provided at the Bounce Fitness site.
To complete this task, you must:
• Review the Information Systems Report you updated in Workplace Project Task 7 and identify the outcomes of the testing activities conducted.
• Identify at least two information changes that are required in information and knowledge systems.
• Update the systems with the information changes you identified based on required changes.
• Confirm that the updated systems and the information are:
• Current
• Accurate
• Relevant
• Sufficient
• Secured

Review Workplace Project Task 8 - Assessor's Checklist before starting this task. This form outlines the following:
• Resources you are required to access to complete the task.

This task will require you to distribute information to at least two stakeholders according to the Information Distribution Communication Plan you developed in Workplace Project Task 6 according to organisational policies and procedures.
To complete this task, you must:
• Access and review organisational policies and procedures relevant to information distribution
• Distribute information to at least two stakeholders according to:
o The Information Distribution Communication Plan you developed in Workplace Project Task 6.
o The organisational policies and procedures for information distribution.

Review Workplace Project Task 9 - Assessor's Checklist before starting this task. This form outlines the following:
• Resources you are required to access to complete the task.
• All criteria your submission must address to satisfactorily complete this task.
Your assessor will discuss these resources with you, and the criteria outlined in this form prior to this assessment.
You must submit evidence of information distribution based on your Information Distribution Communication Plan. This can include:
• Email correspondence
• Meeting minutes
• Video recording of the meeting conducted by the learner with the stakeholders
You must also submit, as supplementary evidence, copies of the organisational policies and procedures for information distribution.

Task 10: Monitor and Update Communication Plan

To complete this task, you must:
• Monitor the implementation of the Information Distribution Communication Plan on at least two occasions based on frequency of each communication activity.
• For each monitoring occasion, update the Information Distribution Communication Plan with the following:
o Date of monitoring
o Actual outcomes
o Revised actions based on actual outcomes
