Problem Solving

Read the following scenario and then:Identify two problem areas the client is experiencing.

• Describe/explain the two identified areas of concerns.
• For each problem, explain in which domains it may be affecting the client:

1. Physical domain - how is the problem affecting the body physically.
2. Emotional domain - how is the problem affecting the client emotionally. (sad/scared etc.)
3. Cognitive domain - how is the problem likely to affect their thinking processes.
4. Social domain - how does the problem affect their ability to develop and maintain healthy friendships, employment, activities, etc.

• For each identified problem, develop one strategy you would put into place to assist your client to move forward in life. NOTE: you are not allowed to refer them to a doctor, counselor, or outside agency. As ACSW students we will often be in the role of creating and participating in the activity with the client, so think of this as being you, working with the client for a six-hour shift. What would you do?
• You must complete this reflection paper by using complete sentences, in paragraph form.

Scenario

Tania has been assigned to an ACSW from the college campus counselor. Tania is a 19-year-old female student attending her first year of a 4 year degree program in nursing. She was arrested by campus police for erratic behavior as she was running through the college bookstore, scaring customers, and pulling items from the shelves. The police reported she was speaking incoherently and resisting arrest. She is currently in a residential treatment center. Tania disclosed that she was celebrating the end of the college semester and that she has a history of snorting cocaine on weekends and has been using drugs and alcohol since the age of 14. She states she wishes to return to the nursing program and feels her behavior is due to exam stress. Further discussion with Tania leads to a disclosure of a possible unplanned pregnancy.
