Instructions for students:
Senior management within your organisation have asked you to develop and implement an operational plan. In order to develop and implement the plan, you will need to analyse a range of documents which you will be required to access from your workplace, and select an objective to base your plan around. These documents should include:
• The organisation's strategic plan;
• Organisational business plans; and
• A range of policies and procedures relating to resource acquisition and operations within the organisation.
To complete this assessment you will need to create an operational plan by completing three (3) tasks:
• Task 1 - Operational plan;
• Task 2 - Plan and manage resource acquisition; and
• Task 3 - Monitor and review organisational performance.
You will be required to present and explain this plan to a range of stakeholders (with the roles to be played by your assessor and Error! Unknown document property name. staff in Assessment 3 - Practical Assessment and Competency Conversation.
This work can be undertaken as a part of a group, however you will need to submit your assessment individually and you will be marked on your individual contribution and the quality of the assessment you have personally produced.
You should ensure that all others who will be involved in the research and development process are in agreement, and that your supervisor approves the concept BEFORE you begin developing your documentation.
To create a complete operational plan you should use Microsoft Word, Google Docs or any other suitable word processing tool for the development and presentation of the plan. If your organisation uses a specific or proprietary system for report development it is acceptable to use this so long as you have gained approval from your supervisor.
Described below is the evidence that you will need to provide for the unit Error! Unknown document property name.. Your trainer will go through this with you in further detail during class and will refer back to it throughout the project. You will be asked to create documentation throughout the project. It is recommended that you keep this project with your work and bring it to call at all times so that when relevant you can refer back to it.

- Documentation can be submitted electronically or paper-based.
- Your assessor will record the assessment outcome on the assessment cover sheet.
Task 1 - Operational plan
You have been asked to develop and implement an operational plan for your organisation. In order to develop the plan, you will need to:
• Select an objective from the organisation's strategic or business plan and develop consultation processes;
• Develop Key Performance Indicators (KPIs);
• Develop a contingency plan; and
• Outline the associated legal requirements relevant to the organisation's operations.
You will need to access a range of organisational documentation from within your workplace to complete this task. Please keep in mind that you will be required to present this section of the plan to key stakeholders as part of Task 1 of Assessment 3 - Practical Assessment and Competency Conversation, and as such, the format, writing style and grammatical structures used should be appropriate to the audience. By addressing the points below you will create an operational plan including background information necessary for presentation and communication:
1.1 Describe different models and methods of operational plans, and explain the role of an operational plan in meeting the organisation's objectives.
1.2 Outline the legislation and regulations relevant to the operational plan, including reference to work health and safety.
1.3 Outline organisational policies and procedures that directly relate to the operational plan.
1.4 Outline the consultation processes you would implement, as part of the operational planning process.
_Research, analyse and document resource requirements for the operational plan.
1.5 Develop an operational plan, including particular reference to Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and contingency planning.
1.6 Outline with whom you would consult with in order to develop, and gain approval for, the operational plan and explain how you will communicate the plan to relevant work teams.
Task 2 - Plan and Manage Resource Acquisition
In order to implement the operational strategic plan, you will need to outline how you will plan and manage the acquisition of resources and services. You will need to access a range of organisational documentation from both within and outside your workplace to complete this task.
Please keep in mind that you will be required to present this section of the plan to senior management as part of Task 2 of Assessment 3 - Practical Assessment and Competency Conversation, and as such, the format, writing style and grammatical structures used should be appropriate to the audience. The following points will need to be covered:
2.1 Develop and outline strategies you will implement to ensure that employees are recruited and/or inducted in accordance with the organisation's human resources management policies and procedures.
2.2 Develop and outline strategies you will implement to ensure that physical resources and services are acquired in accordance with the organisation's human resources management policies and procedures.
2.3 Identify and incorporate requirements for intellectual property rights and responsibilities in the recruitment and acquisition of resources and services.
2.4 Outline systems you would implement to ensure that mentoring and coaching are provided to support individuals and teams use resources effectively, economically and safely.
Task 3 - Monitor and Review Organisational Performance
Based on the development of the operational plan in the previous two (2) tasks, you will be required to outline the methods and techniques you will use in order to monitor and review the operational plan and the performance of the organisation. Please keep in mind that you will be required to present this section of the plan to senior management within your organisation as part of Task 3 of Assessment 3 - Practical Assessment and Competency Conversation, and as such, the format, writing style and grammatical structures used should be appropriate to the audience. The following points will need to be covered:
3.1 Outline the different types of performance systems and processes that you will develop to monitor and review the progress in achieving profit and productivity plans and targets.
3.2 Outline the tools and techniques you will use to analyse and interpret budgets and actual financial information in order to review profit and productivity performance.
3.3 Outline tools and techniques you will use to identify areas of underperformance, recommend solutions and take prompt action to rectify the situation.
3.4 Explain techniques you might use negotiate recommendations for variations to an operational plan, and outline with whom you would be required to gain approval from, should the operational plan be changed.
3.5 Develop systems that can be implemented in order to ensure that procedures and records associated with documenting performance are managed in accordance with organisational requirements.
