Requirements Design Thinking
Assessment Type - Report, Presentation, and VIVA
Case Project
Learning Outcome 1: Understand and explain concepts and principals of requirements and design thinking and how it can be used to address information system solutions.
Learning Outcome 2: Develop an understanding of analysing information system requirements and requirements engineering principles.
Learning Outcome 3: Demonstrate analytical and practical skills in data requirements gathering and modelling data needs at the conceptual, logical, and physical levels along with an ability to compare different approaches.
Learning Outcome 4: Demonstrate an understanding of the system development life cycle, design thinking and agile methodologies.
Assessment Description
In this assessment, students must work in a group to prepare a case study of designing a software project.
A 2000-word Report on Software Design based on your selected project details.
A 15-minute Presentation in session 8 during your class time by whole group.
An individual Viva followed by the presentation in session 8.
You are required to form groups of Three to Four (3 to 4) students.
Your group is required to research and analyze a real-life situation and prepare a software design document of a project.
Suggested topics (list is not restricted):
Fingerprint voting system
Peer assessment system
Video attendance system
Crowd control system
Sentiment analysis for product rating
Parking lot booking system
Weather forecasting system
Casual Marking and Control System
Internship Management System.
Report: This report is to be submitted in MS Word format. Upload the report via Moodle/Turnitin. Follow the instructions as required by this assessment brief.
Presentation: All group members must give the presentation to get the marks. Zero marks will be given to the group member who does not give the presentation or who is absent on the presentation day.
Viva: Every individual must give the Viva to get the marks. Zero marks will be given to the student who does not attend session 8 or who is absent on the presentation day.
INSTRUCTIONS
Report: The word limit of the report is 2000. It should be written in size 12 Arial Font. You must submit your own work and use appropriate references in Harvard style where needed. The similarity index of your report should not be more than 20% and no Diagram should appear plagiarized.
This assessment allows you to be creative in terms of the possibilities of the system you are designing. Take advantage of that and make brainstorming ideas. Surprise your lecturer with something innovative that probably you would be able to implement in further units.
Your report must follow the structure given below:
Executive Summary
It should summarize the key points of the Project.
Introduction
Introduction has the following sections:
Background of Project: Explain the aims, objectives, and importance of the project. What problem you are solving.
Purpose: Explain the purpose of the Project.
Structure: Explain the structure of the Report.
SWOT Analysis
This section conducts the SWOT analysis of the system, you have selected for the project.
Five stages of Design Thinking process
This section describes the five stages of design thinking for the selected project. You may choose a situation or a case problem in your selected project to enlighten how design thinking process will address that problem.
This section describes the following three components:
Two information gathering methods: Select one interactive and one unobtrusive information gathering method and state its implementation for your software application.
Three Case Problems: Analyze at least three case problem scenarios for your selected software project, simplify each scenario by suggesting and applying information gathering approach.
In this section you will identify and explain two methods, one for effective input design and one for effective output design. You will submit a user interface prototype of your project.

RETENTION OF RECORDS
Students are required to keep a copy of all items submitted or completed for assessment or evaluation until the end of the grade appeal period.
GROUP CONTRIBUTION FORM
You must submit the Group Contribution Form with the report. Group Contribution Form is given at the last page of this assessment brief.
