Systems Analysis and Design
Overview
The aim of this assessment is to assess the students' understanding of the first 2 weeks of study. The students will also apply aspects of the SDLC process primarily the preliminary investigation process. Students will have to demonstrate their skills in gathering system requirements through one-on-one interviews.
Learning outcome 1: Evaluate the appropriateness of various systems development methodologies for designing information system solutions
Learning outcome 2: Apply appropriate information gathering techniques, including stakeholder engagement, to create the scope and requirements to an information system problem
Learning outcome 3: Develop and justify a system's specifications against a set of requirements/constraints, employing key principles of information system analysis and design
Learning outcome 4: Develop an information system design that address a set of functional and non-functional requirements and specifications
Learning outcome 5: Apply and integrate professional, ethical, and sustainability behaviours into information technology investigations, system developments, and solutions.
Part A Role-Play Assessment Scenario
As a junior systems analyst at APEX solutions, you were asked by your manager to design an interview questionnaire made up of 10-15 questions for a client who wants an e-commerce website to be developed by your firm. Your manager instructed you that you need to gather information about their scope, requirements for the website, including the features to be incorporated to it, the budget, schedule, constraints, possible issues, and training requirements for their staff. You were specifically instructed to use open-ended, Yes/No questions, multiple-choice, hypothetical, and range-of-response questions in your questionnaire.
Your Tasks
Once the interview questionnaire was approved, you will use it to conduct a role-play with the client. One of the students will play the role of the client, and you will play the role of the analyst. After that, you will switch the role, this time you will play the role of the client, and the other student will be the analyst. You will be observed and assessed by your assessor as you perform your role-play.
After the interview, you will document the interview responses and submit it in Moodle as part of the assessment evidence.
Part B Feasibility Report Assessment Scenario
You have successful conducted the client interview and these are the information you gathered:
Functional requirements
Add product search and filtering features to the Products page.
The website shall be integrated with SAP ERP system and payment solutions (PayPal Direct, PayPal Plus, and Amazon Pay will be the priority payment in the store). Book Our Assignment Help Service Now!
UI should be adapted to the screens of the Apple iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, and all standard tablets, laptops, and PCs.
Should support voice search of products via Alexa, Cortana, and Siri.
Product Images on the product detail page should have the option to zoom in.
The website shall show the following order statuses: confirmed, processing, shipped, returned.
Our product info should be shared on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and LinkedIn.
User comments from Facebook should appear on the product detail page in the "Customer Reviews" page.
Non-functional requirements
Products should be easily found and have an appealing display on the website.
A customer should easily find the right product for them, understand what problems it solves, and make a purchase without contacting us.
No multistep checkout: users must reach the "add to cart" button in one step.
Only the system data administrator can assign roles and change access permissions to the system.
The website must be resilient to any kind of attacks, including DDoS and XSS attacks.
The website's homepage should load in less than 4 seconds.
Because we are looking to grow, the website shall remove all the back-end complexities for in-house engineers to make changes to the system in the future.
Our main goal for the next two years is internationalization, so the website shall have multiple store views for each country we're selling to.
The store shall expand to support 500k+ on a single server without a negative impact on the website load speed.
Budget
Around $50,000
Timeframe
6 months
Hosting
3rd party
Additional Requirements
Developer to provide training and maintenance of the website for the first 12 months as part of the contract, then the costs will be renegotiated after 12 months
Your Tasks
You need to prepare a Feasibility Study Report based on the information gathered during the interview. You need to consider in your feasibility study the likelihood of success in the form of Scheduling Feasibility, Operational Feasibility, Legal Feasibility, Economic Feasibility, and Technical Feasibility of the project. The report will also include financial projections (such as ROI, NPV, and Payback Period), alternative and recommended solutions, and ultimately, a go-or-no-go decision. Finally, an implementation plan should be included that includes a project schedule in the form of a Gantt chart and a PERT chart (showing the critical path).
You are allowed to make assumptions.
You are also required to create a prototype of the system. You will implement your proposed design on the WordPress platform. There is no need to purchase hosting, you will create a free tier account which will permit you to create 10 site pages, select an appropriate template, and lay out the site. Please provide a link to your site in the Feasibility Report as part of the Implementation Plan.
