The Task: "Develop an essay that examines a "turning point" that you believe is under-theorized but significant in developing (or complicating) a particular American social value. The essay should reflect and include the research that you have done for the project, including a minimum of four credible sources that you analyze to help you develop your theory/argument for readers. One of those four sources must be a book."

The topic proposal that I have came up with is how the 1848 Gold Rush was a defining moment in American history and transformed the narrative of what wealth can achieve. With this essay I am supposed to relate the historical period of the Gold Rush to present times and investigate how it has influenced the modern day American idea of getting rich in any means possible.
