The level of controversy should also be well-balanced, avoid a highly controversial topic - especially if you lack perspective about it.

It is very difficult to do a credible essay when you feel very strongly about a topic that you are unable to acknowledge the counter-argument. If you end up relying too heavily on emotion, and not credible sources to make a point, then you run the risk of alienating your audience. You do not want to take this risk since your audience is not going to be persuaded to see the validity of your claim
