Develop Cascading Style Sheets Assignment - Unit Project
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop cascading style sheets (CSS) that are attached to a markup language document, in order to externally define, and control, styles to enhance and achieve commonality between web documents.
It applies to individuals who are required to layout and ensure consistency of appearance between web pages.
Unit Project (UP) - Develop a website, using cascading style sheets.
Instructions to complete this assessment task:
This assessment task requires you to develop a website, using cascading style sheets.
You must prepare three web pages as specified.
You must fulfil the conditions specified in the project.
You must attach the copies of your original code and modified code with this assessment task and provide them to your trainer/assessor.
Trainer/assessor will assess your performance as per the performance criteria and checklist provided.
You must use the design brief from the previous assignment to perform this task.
You may attach additional pages.
You must include the following in the footer section of each page of the attached sheets:
- Student ID or Student Name
- Unit ID or Unit Code
- Course ID or Course Code
- Trainer and assessor name
- Page numbers
You must staple the loose sheets together along with the cover page.
You must attach the loose sheets chronologically as per the page numbers.
Correction fluid and tape are not permitted. Please do any corrections by striking through the incorrect words with one or two lines and rewriting the correct words.
The premise of the project must be closely related to the previous assessment task.
This submission must be well presented and follow the guidelines and instructions provided.
Please follow the format as indicated in the template section below.
One of the most important steps that you can take: proofread your project.

Project -
In this assessment task, you are required to develop a website, using cascading style sheets. This assessment task is divided in the following parts:
Part 1: Gather information regarding the technical and business aspects to complete the website.
Part 2: Lay out page elements, using CSS and test web pages in a variety of browsers
Part 3: Validate the CSS against industry standards.
Project description - You are required to code using Hypertext Mark-up Language (HTML) and cascading style sheets (CSS) to develop a website that have the following features:
i. Three web-pages.
a. Home-page with information about you and this website project (100-150 words)
b. Our-location page must include two brick houses, a park, a swimming pool and cars moving on two streets.
c. Contact us page must have your name, contact details and a contact form.
Conditions: You must follow a number of project conditions to complete this project acceptably:
- You must use a web development tool, such as Adobe Dreamweaver from Adobe Systems for this assessment task.
- You must code using Hypertext Mark-up Language (HTML) and cascading style sheets (CSS) to create, format, review, save and access web- based documents, diagrams and images.
Part 1: Gather information regarding the technical and business aspects to complete the website.
Gather information regarding your project task: You must speak with your trainer/assessor and complete the below template:

Part 2: Lay out page elements, using CSS and test web pages in a variety of browsers
In this assessment task, you are required to complete work according to the information gathered through Part 1, project description and project conditions.
This part is further divided into two activities.
Activity 1: Design the website/ Layout page elements using CSS for "our location" page:
You must include the following page elements using CSS:
I. Body: The position of the high-scraper should be fixed and background a very light shade of orange.
II. Ground
III. Ground div
IV. Road
V. Wood
VI. High-scrapper
VII. Water
Activity 2: Test web-pages in a variety of browsers
For this assessment activity, you are required to test your web-site on the following web browsers:
- Google Chrome
- Mozilla Firefox and
- Microsoft Internet Explorer

Part 3: Validate the CSS against industry standards.
In this assessment task, you are required to validate your CSS and HTML code. You must validate these against current industry standards.
Description of the task: Tags left open can be nightmares for developers and horrifying for the users if they see the code live on screen. So, it's mandatory to make sure that the code is clean and properly validated. W3schools have a soft corner for the same. You can easily validate your HTML, JS, and CSS before going live on tools like W3C Mark-up validation service, Free Formatter or JS Formatter, W3C CSS Validation Service - W3 Jigsaw or CSS Validation Service.
Browser Compatibility issues can be found using these tools and you can further proceed with solving them.
What is expected from you:
It is expected that you must use CSS Validation Service to validate your CSS and HTML code.
You are required to sort out all issues and warnings and ensure your code is error-free.
Reporting the result: You must attach the copies of your original code and modified code with this assessment task and provide them to your trainer/assessor.
