Aim - The module is designed to provide an in depth and critical understanding of product and service innovation and the contribution of an entrepreneurial mindset. Further, students explore contemporary issues associated with the complexity of global sourcing and logistics of products and services.
The module explores the characteristics of products and services. It examines the interconnection of an entrepreneurial mindset and its role in the process of product and service innovation. Students explore the complexity of dynamic, global sourcing and logistics to delivery customer value. A range of sourcing specific topics such as international, out- and multi-sourcing including associated risks and contemporary issues are explored. Also, in terms of logistics, students examine the complex transport and warehousing, shipping and customs procedures. Further, barriers such as import/ export quota for products or international mobility restrictions for service delivery are critically evaluated. In consideration of contemporary issues students will develop effective and responsible marketing practices for product and service innovation, sourcing and logistics.
In summary, the module aims to examine the process of product and service innovation and critically evaluate effective and responsible practices for sourcing and logistics marketing solutions. The main purpose of this module handbook is to provide you with a comprehensive guide for this module. In this handbook you will find information and advice that should help as you progress through the module.
Learning Outcome 1: Demonstrate a critical understanding of the characteristics of products and services.
Learning Outcome 2. Critically evaluate the role of entrepreneurial thinking in marketing innovation in response to a dynamic global marketplace
Learning Outcome 3. Critically analyse the role of sourcing and distribution as well as associated contemporary issues in a global marketing context
Learning Outcome 4. Establish a responsible plan to implement and control the sourcing and distribution of an innovation in a global context
The purpose of this assessment is for you to understand and demonstrate an understanding of what product and services are, how to manage the innovation process and lastly pitch an innovation to potential funding opportunities and customers.
Task Required
In pairs or small teams, present and critically reflect on an original product or service innovation that delivers clear, novel customer value in a dynamic global marketplace.
Your presentation is made up of three parts:
1. Video, all students will participate, duration 1 minute
2. PPT Presentation, all students will present, duration 9 minutes
3. Facilitation of questions and answer session (Q&A), duration 5 minutes
All three parts of the presentation should be embedded in a formal presentation utilising a professional application such as Microsoft PowerPoint.
The video should be an elevator pitch-style presentation of your innovation similar to the format on crowd-funding platforms.
Following the video, your presentation should summarise the nature (product or service) of and rationale for your innovation and critically reflect on the process/ development (your meeting notes etc. may be useful to document the process). At the end of your presentation, you will facilitate a Q&A session, this is a call for questions and direct the discussion and close the presentation.
The purpose of this assessment is for you to demonstrate your understanding of the role of marketing logistics in realising the value proposition of a product or service. This will look at both the sourcing as well as the distribution of your product in consideration of the current global context and dynamics with a view to establishing a responsible sourcing and logistics policy for your innovation.
Task Required
Individually, develop a responsible and effective global sourcing and logistics portfolio to deliver customer value for your innovation concept presented in CW1.
The Sourcing Strategy and Distribution Strategy sections should present sustainable, responsible solutions and policies that consider contemporary issues in global marketing. Your conclusion should highlight the key issues and implications.
