Assignment:

I am consultant dietitian who has recently been contacted by the headquarters of a large manufacturing plant in your city. This company has about 300 employees in one location, with large open outdoor spaces and sidewalks around the facility and an on-site cafeteria. In addition, there are several break rooms that contain vending machines. The employees are shift workers, 75% are blue-collar, and the majority are Latinx and African American.

Six months ago, a group from your local university came to the company and measured heights and weights of the employees as part of a larger study. After calculating BMIs, the university researchers found that the majority (65%) of employees were classified as either overweight or obese. The company president had recently had a heart attack and was appalled at the high rate of overweight and obesity among company employees, so he decided to take action. He has hired you to put together a one-year worksite health promotion program that targets obesity prevention for the employees. He has told you that he is willing to change company policies regarding food and physical activity and that you have a budget to develop some infrastructure and implement an intervention. Because the company president is investing a great deal of effort and resources into the program, he expects to see some success over time. On the basis of your previous experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating worksite-based programs, you know that you will need to obtain "buy-in" from the stakeholders (people who will be implementing and participating in the intervention) and set up appropriate goals for the program.

The company president has asked you to develop a proposal video detailing the aspects of the intervention program. He asked that your video contains:

  1. Name of worksite health promotion program will be called Step Up for You Challenge
  2. The behavioral- and/or environmental-oriented theory or theories that could be used in a worksite setting with the strategies you proposed.
  3. At least 2 specific aims for behavioral objectives (diet and physical activity behaviors) and at least 1 environmental-level factors (social or physical conditions) that will lead to prevention of weight gain or to weight loss in this population. Be sure to use SMART objectives: those that are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-Bound (as discussed).
  4. Detailed strategies or "the intervention" for the proposed worksite health promotion program. Be sure to include strategies for both nutrition and physical activity.
  5. What strategies (at least two) will you use to get employees excited to sign up for the worksite wellness program? Include biggest loser challenges which will require employees' weight, ht and bmi to get taken and see who loses the most weight in 30 days. In order to win a month of meal prepping from a local company to ignite them to continue of their weight loss journey. Also give employees free gym membership which would be paid for by the company.
