Assignment

In Project-1 you established a Manufacturing Company based on an order you received for the following part for fabrication (Figure below). A detailed drawing was provided.

In Project-1 you established:
• The Manufacturing System
• Manufacturing Strategy
• Organizational Structure.
• Processing Strategy
• Process Plan
• Plant Layout

You will use this information to in Project-2. You will finalize The:
• Processing Strategy
• Process Plan
• Plant Layout

With the information you gather in Project-2. This includes

• Performing a Detailed Drawing Interpretation.
• Conduct Material Evaluation & Process Selection
• Determine Production Equipment & Tooling Selection
• Determine Process Parameters
• Select Workholding Devices
• Select Quality Assurance Methods
• CAM process in MasterCAM.

All work/decisions has to reference the dimensions/tolerances and specifications provided in the detailed drawing. NOTE. Standard are available online through the NJIT Library.

• For Example Heat Treatment is called out. How will this affect your Process given the tolerances called out in the drawing?
Prepare a Report that provides all the needed description and support documents for the Project.

The report will include the previous sections from Project-1 updated where needed:

Introduction
• The story you create regarding the nature of the order that was placed.
o In what industry is this part used.
o What are the Quantities of the order requested
o What is the expected frequency of the order placed
For Example: Once a quarter, Once a Year?

Manufacturing Organization
• Finalize the Manufacturing Organization you have selected to deal with this part.
o Please note your company will have to have a mix of CNC and Manual processes for both Fabrication and Inspection.
• You need to justify all your decisions based on the description you provide in the
Introduction. Describe your decisions on:
o The Manufacturing System
o Manufacturing Strategy
o Organizational Structure.

Process Plan
• Develop a Process Plan through evaluation of the Part's Detailed Drawing, Material Evaluation, and Solid Model.
o Please note the Process Plan has to be in alignment with the Manufacturing Organization you have selected.
o The Process Plan has to be based on documented interpretation and calculations.
• Provide the Fabrication and Inspection equipment selected.
» Provide details on the Tooling /Workholding selected.
» Process Parameters selected with Detailed Calculations.
» Quality Assurance Methods.
o Finalize the Routing Sheet Process Planning Documentation.
CAM Programming & Manufacturing Simulation
• Using MasterCAM execute the Fabrication portion of your Process Plan.
o Please note. The CAM must match your Process Plan including
» Equipment Selected.
» Workholding/Tooling selected.
» Process Parameters.
» Routing Sheet and Process Planning Documentation.
o Document all the CAM selections (e.g. Tooling) and fabrication steps.
» Use Figures and Images throughout.
» For Example Before and After images for process steps.
o Provide process information (e.g. cycle time) for each step.

Plant Layout

Finalize your Plant Layout based on your Manufacturing Organization and Process Plan.
• Your layout will need to be to scale.
• Use a 2D software to scale your layout. The software does not have to be CAD. You can use for example Microsoft Visio (available through NJIT) or other online packages. The software just has to allow you to:
o Create a plant layout where all components are properly scaled in relation to each other.

Report Quality

Your report should be organized following standard technical writing methods.
• Each Section/Subsection should be clearly identified with Heading/Sub Heading.
• Provide Tables and Figures that are referenced in the text.
• All information researched should also be properly referenced.
• You should include a Cover Page, Table of Contents, and Page Numbers.
• An Appendix can also be provided if needed.
