Assessment Tasks
Task 1
Imagine that you have been asked to research and consult on the revision of the sun protection policy used by your service.
Using research available from relevant Internet or print-based sources, respond to the following questions:
1) Locate the sun protection policy in your organisation's own policy documents, and report on how well the policy meets the requirements of the National Law and National Regulations.
2) Locate the most reliable and relevant sources of information for compiling further research in this policy area, and list the sources that you located on the internet or in print. Be specific, including government websites and reputable organisations that can provide information about legislative and organisational requirements for policy.
3) For each source that you have listed, provide a brief description of the type of information that you gathered.
4) Thinking about your own service, list the stakeholders who should be consulted in the development of policy, and stakeholders that should be involved in the review of this policy.
5) Design a list of appropriate consultation methods for each of the stakeholders you identified in question 4. Explain the ideas and issues to be approached with each stakeholder.
6) Considering the specific needs of your service, its organisational cultures and its location, write plan for the policy development that identifies processes and example of:
• Implementing the sun protection policy
• Resources required to implement the policy
• Review time lines
Task 2
Locate your current Sun Protection Policy in your service.
1) Develop a policy proposal for the management of your service regarding the review of this policy. Remember to acknowledge a range of sources and interest groups.
2) Develop a policy implementation plan, including a task breakdown.
3) Write a short statement on the methods you would use to disseminate, promote and publicise the policy to:
• Staff
• Children
• Families
4) Using one of these methods, develop information in the appropriate format to educate staff, children or families about the policy's introduction. Include information that explains the reason for and the benefits of the policy, how it will be implemented and responsibilities of relevant stakeholders.
5) Develop an evaluation plan to review the policy in your workplace. Include evaluation strategies that invite feedback from all relevant stakeholders. Make sure your plan includes realistic time lines for gathering feedback, reviewing the policy and implementing changes.
Task 3
Locate a policy in your workplace that is due for review, you may use a policy about any topic you like.
1) How would you test this policy in your workplace? Complete a consultation plan that outlines an appropriate testing and consultation schedule, including individuals and experts who might be consulted. Include position titles instead of names.
2) What implementation issues might arise from the policy if it was tested in your workplace? Include references to the specific organisational culture, different programs and types of service you provide.
3) What modifications would you need to make so this policy better fits the particular needs of your service (remember that this policy is ready for review and no policy is perfect)?
4) How would you inform stakeholders of the changes made to the final version of the policy? Design a piece of written communication that refers to the modifications, to inform a group of stakeholders about the final change.
