Case: Mrs. C is a 62 year old women recently diagnosed with high blood pressure. Her blood pressure was 164/95 on her most recent Dr. visit. Mrs. C is overweight and inactive. She typically eats a lot of fast food and processed food and spends her free time watching tv and caring for her granddaughter. She does like to cook but has gotten out of the habit of cooking most nights. She does consume alcohol and generally has 3 glasses of wine a night. Her doctor told her to decrease her sodium intake and to follow the DASH diet, but she is unsure how to do this.
