Assignment 1: Case Study
In this module, you will get an opportunity to gather true-to-life data from a recovering addict. This assignment will enable you to develop a case study. Using the information you have gathered through this course, you will make recommendations for the continued success in recovery of the addict.
Interview a recovering addict (a friend, family member, or someone solicited from a 12-step open meeting), and write a three- to five-page paper discussing the following:
• Demographics of the individual (no real names)
• History of drug use
• Reasons for drug use
• The duration of drug use
• Steps taken to gain sobriety
• Steps taken to remain sober
• Recommendations you propose for continued success for recovery
Prepare your paper in Microsoft Word document format.
Note: Do not make recommendations to the person you interview, but rather, use them for learning purposes in this paper.

Dr. Smith is a supervisor in a counseling center. One of the counselors she supervises often comes in late to work. One night, when Dr. Smith is dining out with friends, she sees the counselor at another table, talking loudly and appearing to be intoxicated.

Assignment 3: Diagnosis and Treatment Plan
This assignment provides you an opportunity to develop a diagnosis and treatment plan. Select a television episode or movie with a primary theme pertaining to substance abuse or dependence.
Prepare a three- to five-page diagnosis and treatment plan for the substance user portrayed in the television episode or movie. Your plan should include:
1. A diagnosis based on the current DSM.
2. The impact of the character's substance abuse on the family.
3. A proposed treatment approach for the character.
4. What you learned from this process.
