Please help me develop a crisis communication plan for the following scenario

 

Hamburgers, Inc. is pleased to announce a new menu practice where the nutritional information and the calorie counts will be prominently displayed, helping consumers make healthy choices from the menu. Your supervisors have heard that there may be representatives of the Cow Liberation Group (which advocates vegetarianism) and several nutritionists (who perceive the company has not done enough to improve its products) at the press conference. You represent Hamburgers, Inc

 

A crisis communication plan needs to be created for the possibility of a protest at the press conference. The Cow Liberation Group promoted vegetarianism and feels the company Hamburgers INC is promoting murder, the nutritionists feel that Hamburgers INC is junk food and poison. They also feel strongly that companies like Hamburgers INC are promoting poor eating habits in children as well as adults. Also that companies like Hamburgers INC capitalize in low income in areas that are considered food deserts.

Developing Your Crisis Communication Plan

 

A crisis communication plan is the prepared scenario document that organizes information into responsibilities and lines of communication prior to an event. With a plan in place, if an emergency arises, each person knows his or her role and responsibilities from a common reference document. Overall effectiveness can be enhanced with a clear understanding of roles and responsibilities for an effective and swift response. The plan should include four elements:

 

  1. Crisis communication team members with contact information
  2. Designated spokesperson
  3. Meeting place/location
  4. Media plan with procedures

 

A crisis communication team includes people who can

 

  • decide what actions to take,
  • carry out those actions,
  • offer expertise or education in the relevant areas.
