Assignment 3 - Self Reflection, Career Personal Development Plan and Team Reflection

Overview

Following on from Assignment One and utilising information from the team assignment, prepare a self-reflection report to support you in developing your future career planning and decisions and in the transition to opportunities after your undergraduate studies.

The overall aims of the assignment are to provide you with the opportunity to:

• Demonstrate self awareness and reflection to support your Career Development activities
• Develop a Career Personal Development Plan (PDP) following the consideration of your current knowledge, skills and experiences against the requirements identified by the role/sector
• Reflect on your team working experience, skills and future developments required
• Develop a comprehensive STAR competency framework for a key competency identified in your research
• Develop employability skills associated with meeting deadlines and succinct writing

The task - what you are being asked to do

Utilising information provided during the lectures, tutorials, the team assignment presentations and additional research you have undertaken, and making use of feedback and development points received from your first assignment, you need to:

• Complete a comprehensive personal analysis of what you have to offer a potential employer at the moment. This should include your current skills, knowledge and experiences, both academic and from other areas of your life. You could consider creative approaches to this part of the assignment, eg using a mind map or a rich picture (which you should include in the appendices) to develop ideas that will be formally written up for submission.
• Once you have completed your analysis, you should review where you see yourself against the identified requirements. This should be undertaken as a "gap analysis", for example: where do you need to add more evidence of your competence? What additional skills & experiences do you need to add? Would you feel confident going through a selection process?
• Once you have completed the above, you are in a position to develop your Career Personal Development Plan (PDP). This should show both the short-term and longer-term actions required to prepare you to be successful in gaining an opportunity in the area you have identified. Your actions must be SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time-bound)
• Undertake a reflection of your personal development as a result of working within the team that you were a part of for the Team assignment. You need to reflect upon your role and contribution within the team and the final output; the benefits and challenges that working within that team created and how this will influence how you approach future team working opportunities. You should also reflect on how your team functioned within the various roles of the assessment activity. You must make reference to relevant reflective and team working theory within this reflection as appropriate
• Complete one detailed STAR competency framework for a key competency other than team working

The report - what you are being asked to submit

You are required to submit a written report of 1100 words (+ / - 10% - not including title page, contents page, reference list and appendices). You are encouraged to refer to the document "Guide to Report Writing", published by the Centre for Academic Skills Enhancement (CASE) to support you in preparing your report. You may use the headings shown in this briefing or you may use your own headings, what is important is that you clearly cover all areas outlined below.  As this is a personal reflection report, this report should be written in the first person. i.e. you are expected to use "I".
